For a long time I have wished that there was a reset button somewhere in your brain where you could forget that you have read a book before so that you can fall in love with it all over again. Some books are worse the second time around, some are better, but nothing compares to that first time. In no particular order, the top ten books I wish I could read again for the first time;
On The Jellicoe Road – Melina Marchetta
I fall in love with this book over and over again and every time I read it, it just gets better. But this book was also one of the first books I ever fell in love with and it opened up a new world for me and I would love the opportunity to experience that again
The Fault In Our Stars – John Green
Much like Jellicoe, this book gets better with each reading. But I would love to read it again for the first time without the weight of it all hanging in the background.
Harry Potter Series – J.K. Rowling
Because it’s Harry Potter and I want to read it again without knowing the ending. I want those ‘OOOO I did not see that coming’ moments. And part of me wants to be 13 again because reading those books when you are the same age as the characters is it’s own special kind of magic
Jessica – Bryce Courtney
This book is depressing, but I loved it. But I can’t bring myself to re-read it because I was depressed for like a week afterwards. Would be great to experience it again not knowing what’s in store.
The Horse Whisperer – Nicholas Evans
I loved this book the first time I read it. And hated it the second. So if I could just read it for the first time, every time, I would always love it.
The Tomorrow Series – John Marsden
Much like The Horse Whisperer, I didn’t enjoy this series the second time around (although I certainly didn’t hate it)
1984 – George Orwell
Another great first read, ‘meh’ the second.
The Time Travellers Wife – Audrey Niffenegger
Time travel confuses the hell out of me, but I was so into this book when I read it that I didn’t think about it and it allowed me to love the book. I’m worried that a re-read won’t allow me to ignore any holes of confusion that come with time travel, so it would be best if I could just read this for the first time again.
Me Before You – Jojo Moyes
Another book that has one of those endings where you need to not know in order to fully appreciate it
The Book Thief – Markus Zusak
I did not like this book. And I have a theory that it’s because I was not in a good frame of mind to be reading a book like this (I should have been reading something like Anna and the French Kiss), so I figure, if I could read it for the first time again, I might like it and then I wouldn’t be the only person in the world who didn’t like the story.

Love it! I totally wish that I could be that young child reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone for the first time…and every book after that too!
Wouldn’t it be amazing? oh it was such a magical time. I’m so glad I was able to live through that!
Great choices. I love Melina Marchetta’s books. Me before You was an excellent book.
I can’t get enough of Melina. Me before you was great, I actually finished reading it just after I had seen the movie ‘The Intouchables’. Have you seen that? I strongly recommend it
Ladies, you should check out Malorie Blackman’s Noughts and Crosses. I was off books for two weeks because the ending shocked me so much. Now I’m hesitant to reread it to avoid it. I wish I could have my first reading back!
Just added it to my TBR list on Goodreads! Although, given that you said you were off books for 2 weeks, I might have to read it strategically…like maybe before I have a really busy time coming up….I don’t know. Thanks for the recommendation

There a couple on your list I’d like to experience again for the first time! And I often worry that re-reading will ruin my previous thoughts so it’s not something I do v.often!

I have mixed feelings about re-reads. I do it all the time, but I always proceed with caution because I have ruined a few experiences doing it.
