On February 23rd, 2014, we set off on a new tome travel of Simmone Howell’s ‘Girl Defective’. Fortunately for us, Simmone had already mapped out the locations on Google Maps. You can view this here. This map, combined with a re-read and a very helpful list that Simmone kindly provided us with, allowed us to map out Girl Defective in photo form. We are very happy to share it with you all.

‘The Purple Onion… You know that dome on the foreshore? It’s what they call a pop-up bar… They’ve used this hideous purple paint and all this brush fencing. It’s like being inside a testicle.’ – pg 54
‘My feet clomped along the Lower Esplanade and didn’t stop until they were standing on the little grey bridge looking down at the Purple Onion in all its brush-fenced testicular glory.’ – pg 90
So, the Purple Onion is an imagined bar… but the little grey bridge exists! It’s kind of out of place, being where it is, but it’s cute and the beach is right behind it. I wanted to go play, but alas earwax, time was once again not our friend.

This is one spot in Melb that I can say I’ve been to! I love that you’re tome travelling again 🙂 I’m taking a UK blogger to Manly today and thought of you two! xox
It’s pretty funky down there! Lots going on. That’s so awesome, how did it go? I can’t wait until our next Sydney road trip, aside from our inability to navigate the roads, we had so much fun there!
